X Factor contestant Chloe Baker suffered sickening injuries when a jealous male friend launched a vicious assault during a kidnap bid.
The 21-year-old Liverpudlian was on a night out in her home city when she was dragged into a car and set upon.
She later posted a harrowing selfie from hospital, showing her with black eyes and a cut and bruised face.
Beneath the photo she described her alleged attacker as a “monster” and said the assault left her “sickened to the stomach”. Police said they were investigating the incident.
A friend said singer Chloe, who narrowly missed progressing to the Judges’ Housespart of the talent show last week, was deeply shaken. She alleges the attacker was someone she had known for years.

Battered: Chloe Baker after the attack
The pal told the Sunday People: “Sadly one of Chloe’s former friends couldn’t cope with seeing her on The X Factor and became very violent.
“Chloe was enjoying a night out with a group of her closest friends when this guy saw her and approached.
“He managed to get her into his car and she was attacked.
“She had to go to hospital because the injuries were serious. She’s a lovely girl and didn’t deserve this.
“It’s put a real dampener on what has been a lovely experience for her. She’s very proud of how well she did on the show and didn’t deserve this.”
Viewers saw Chloe booted out by judge Rita Ora in last Sunday’s pre-recorded Six Chair Challenge after singing Candi Staton’s You’ve Got The Love.

Ordeal: Chloe blames jealous pal
At the start of the series, dance teacher Chloe had been tipped for success.
But as she progressed through the show one of her male friends is said to have become jealous.
She was allegedly attacked last Saturday and spent the next day in hospital.
The aspiring pop star posted a shocking photograph of her battered face on to her social media accounts.
In the caption beneath, she told friends: “Wasn’t going to do this but I am because I’m truly sickened to my stomach and believe people need to know that this boy is a monster.”
She claimed she was “kidnapped into a car, where he did this to me”. And she added: “This boy will not get away with what he’s done to me and my life.”
Chloe also posted a photo of herself and three pals ahead of their night out, with the message: “Before the nightmare.”
She later wrote: “Never suffer in silence.”
Later in the week she posted the message: “You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
When approached at their Liverpool home, both Chloe and her mother refused to discuss the incident further.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that an investigation is under way following an incident in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday.
“At around 4am the victim was waiting for a taxi with two friends when she became involved in a verbal altercation with a man she knew.
“Following this altercation the man is alleged to have assaulted her, resulting in her needing hospital treatment for swelling to her face and scratches to her face and arms.
“The victim made a formal allegation to Merseyside Police on Thursday, October 8, and a full investigation is under way.”
Before appearing on the show Chloe, who trained at Liverpool’s Dance and Drama Centre, spoke of her nerves at stepping out in front of Simon Cowell and the other judges.
She said: “It was overwhelming. Even with a performance background it was nerve-racking.
“I don’t think anything can prepare you for something like the X Factor.
“I’ve grown up watching it but you never imagine doing it yourself.”
On last week’s show Chloe was originally given a seat in the Six Chair Challenge by Rita.
But she was then told to give up her place in the final six in favour of 17-year-old student Louisa Johnson.
After narrowly losing out, Chloe posted an online message to a pal, saying: “Don’t worry, beautiful. Final six are top dogs.
“I’m blessed to even get that far. Thank you so much for support.”
