Facebook is preparing to expose its users to the potential humiliation of having their most embarrassing posts made public.
It has announced changes to its search function which will allow people to search through many of its 2 trillion posts.
Any status update or message which hasn't been made private will be available for the whole world to see.
The function brings Facebook closer to the real time, global conversation familiar to users of Twitter.
"When something happens in the world, people often turn to Facebook to see how their friends and family are reacting," said Tom Stocky , VP of Search.
"Today, we’re updating Facebook Search so that in addition to friends and family, you can find out what the world is saying about topics that matter to you.
"Search results are organized to help you cut through the noise and quickly understand what the world is saying about a topic in the moment."
Facebook said the changes were "another step toward helping you find what matters".
We say it's a sure fire path to unemployment, break-ups and social shame.
So we'd advise you to lock down your Facebook.
Just go into privacy settings, which can be accessed by clicking the padlock icon in the top right hand of the screen.
Click "see more settings", then go to "limit past posts" and press the button with those same words.
This will allow you to make sure all your old, embarassing statuses are for your eyes only - or just for the friends who already know your most shameful secrets.
